Play Reading: The Onboarding Testimonial by Bruce Walsh

The Lancaster Dramatists’ Platform presents a reading of The Onboarding Testimonial, a new play by award-winning playwright Bruce Walsh, on Saturday, July 27th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Franklin & Marshall College Philadelphia Alumni Writers House, 633 College Avenue in Lancaster. The event is co-sponsored by Creative Works of Lancaster.

Bored by milquetoast upbeat employee testimonials, a 2070 corporate HR department looks to “plus their workers’ personal histories with depth and authenticity.” When they discover that none of the current staff is capable of creating personal statementa without AI assistance, they seek to hire an elderly millennial – one of the last people on earth to think about their lives in unruly, unpredictable ways, which they hope will make for “plus lean-in moments.”

Since receiving his MFA in playwriting from Indiana University Bloomington in 2017, Bruce Walsh’s plays have been produced around the country, winning the Heideman Award, the Kennedy Center’s Gary Garrison National Ten Minute Play Award, and the Maxim Mazumdar New Play Competition. In a previous life, he was a longtime arts reporter for the Philadelphia Metro and City Paper. He currently teaches literature, creative writing, and theater at Messiah University and Elizabethtown College. Bruce is excited to be a 2025 William Inge Center Playwright in Residence, where he will live in Inge’s boyhood home for five weeks and develop the courage to consider the dark at the top of the stairs.

The July 27 reading is free and open to the public, with donations accepted to help cover expenses. For more information about the event or about the Platform, please email lancasterdramatists@gmail.com.
